Internet use policy

PCs and Internet Services 

  • Access to PCs is a free service provided by the Leichhardt Library Service to members of the Library Service.
  • As a member you may reserve a PC seven (7) days in advance. Use is restricted to a maximum of 2 hours per person per day. Bookings are only held for 10 minutes.
  • PCs are available for use at Leichhardt and Balmain Libraries. The Library Service provides access to the Internet and MS Office, excluding Outlook.
  • You must book the PCs via the Library’s Public PC Booking system.
  • There is a charge of 20¢ per page for printing. Value must be added to your library card.
  • If you have any enquiries about access to the PCs or the Internet please ask at the Information Desk.

 

Policy of Acceptable Use of PCs

Welcome to the PCs and the Internet at Leichhardt Library Service

Please read the following guidelines

  • This service provides access only; it is expected that you are able to use the software on the PCs. Staff can only assist with technical problems.
  • If you require assistance in how to use the PCs the Library Service provides Introductory Computer and Internet classes.  You will need to make a separate booking at the Information Desk to join these classes.
  • When making a booking please plan so that you can complete your work in the time available.
  • You may download information from the Internet as long as you are within Copyright Regulations. Details of the Copyright Regulations are displayed for your information.
  • You may not use or install your own software programs on the Library Service computers.
  • You may use personal storage devices within the limitations of the Copyright provisions.
  • The Library Service does not take any responsibility for technical problems in accessing sites on the Internet as it is out of our control.
  • Restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or guardian; the Library Service does not have the right or responsibility to act in place of parents.   Parents concerned about their children's use of electronic resources are ultimately responsible for setting standards and establishing guidelines for their children.
  • The Library Service is not responsible for inadvertent exposure by minors or adults to potentially offensive material accessed by Internet users on library PCs. The Library Service is not responsible for what a minor or adult may locate on the Internet. Users are cautioned that ideas, points of view and images can be found on the Internet which are controversial, divergent and/or inflammatory. The provision of access does not mean or imply that the Library Service endorses or sanctions the content or point of view of any of the information, images or commentary which may be found on the Internet.
  • All users of electronic information resources such as the Internet are expected to use these resources in a responsible manner, consistent with the educational and informational purposes for which they are provided. You are not to use the Library's computer system and Internet resources for the following :
        • For any purpose(s) which break applicable Australian or state law(s). Users must respect all copyright laws and licensing agreements pertaining to software, files and other resources obtained via the Internet.
        • To cause disruption to  or interference to the network services provided, such interference or disruption includes but is not limited to: distribution of unsolicited advertising, harassment, libelling or slandering of others and the propagation of computer worms or viruses.
  • Users who do not comply with these guidelines will be restricted from using the Library Service's PCs and can be excluded from the Library Service under Section 17 of the Library Regulation 2000(Library Act 1939).
  • Use of the Public Access Computers is at all times at the discretion of the library staff.
