Smoke from Wood Fires
Smoke from wood heaters is a major cause of local air pollution as it contains a number of noxious gases and fine particles. Woodfire smoke has negative health impacts especially for persons with respiratory problems. Council's Environmental Sustainability Strategy aims to address localised air pollution by enforcing regulations concerning the emission of smoke from domestic wood fires and other solid fuel heating fireplaces. Regulations relating to domestic wood fire smoke are set out in the Environment Operations (Clean Air) Regulations 2010.
