Park Plans of Management

What are Plans of Management?

Leichhardt Council prepares Plans of Management for the following classifications of open space:

  • Community Land (in accordance with the Local Government Act)
  • Crown Land (in accordance with the Crown Lands Act)

An essential management tool, Plans of management:

  • Are written by Council in consultation with the community
  • Identify the important features of the land
  • Clarify how Council will manage the land, and in particular
  • Indicate how the land may be used or developed.

What is the process for writing a Plan of Management?

1.        Leichhardt Council recognises the need to prepare a Park Plan of Management.

2.        Public Notification of Intention to Prepare Draft Plan of management and Request for

           submissions.

3.        Production of DRAFT Management Plan Consultation with local residents sports

          groups, aboriginal groups, andother interested parties.Full consideration given to comments

          received.

4.       Draft Management Plan considered by Council and approved for public release. Available to

          public for comments (for a period of at least 2 months).  Notify in writing all those who have

          made comments.

5.       Following receipt of submissions, Council holds a hearing. 

6.       Report on hearing written.

7.       Council analysis of submissions received.

8.       Plan revised in accordance with decision on submissions and Council adopts Final Plan of

         Management (Minister of Planning approval sought where land owned by the Crown). 

         The Plan is made available to the public.

9.      Monitor and Review Plan. Full review every 10 years.
