Market Stall Requirements

Anyone wishing to sell food an any of the markets or fairs must apply for registration at Leichhardt Council before they will be permitted to trade. Before you are registered, you must provide Council with the following information:-

  1. A copy of your current Public and Product Liability Insurance Policy to the value of $10 million each. The insurance policy must cover the business or person trading in a market situation. Insurance policy must also specify a current expiry date and nominate Leichhardt Council as an "Interested Party".
  2. A letter or inspection report from your local Council showing that the kitchen in which you prepare the food for sale is regulary inspected and is maintained in a satisfactory condition. (This is not necessary if all the food for sale is prepared onsite or for stalls who sell fruit and vegetables).
  3. A completed 'Temporary Food Premises' application form (download application below).
  4. Confirmation by the market organiser that there is space for you to trade at the designated market. There are limited spaces available for food at each market and you must contact the organiser each time you wish to trade.

 

Registration Fees

  • Market Stall Registration Fee - $205.00 (pro-rated from July of each year)
  • Single day trading at a market or annual event - $100.00
  • Trading at one or several markets or annual events during a financial year - $205.00

Please note: All food stall holders must register with Leichhardt Council directly and follow Council's Code for Temporary Food Premises at all times. Permission must be obtained from the fair or market organiser to trade.

What you would expect to see at the markets

Organge Grove Farmer's Market (Times: 8am-1pm on Saturdays)

Organic foods including fruit and vegetables, meat, chicken, bread and dried goods to name a few. Fresh French breads and pastries, free range eggs, organic coffee, vegan and vegetarian dishes, smoked trout, honey and various teas and herbs are also a common sight. There are also various plants, antiques, and clothing available.

 

Rozelle Market (Times: 9am-4pm on Saturdays)

Rozelle Market also known as the second-hand market, boasts a huge range of furniture, crafts, clothing, jewellery, records, food, books and other treasures. Set in historic surrounds, this market has a great atmosphere for everyone to enjoy all weekend.

 

Balmain Market (Times: 9am-4pm on Saturdays)

Set in the majestic St Andrews Congregational Church grounds, Balmain Market has such a popular food hall that patrons literally have to line up outside the hall itself. Clothing, homewares, crafts, jewellery, furniture, books and the like are packed into a treelined coutyard creating an ideal day out.
