Council provides the first bin to the property for free. Payment for replacement bins encourages property owners/residents to take responsibility of their bins and is in line with legislation that requires residents to retrieve their bin(s) as soon as practicable after collection.

Your Domestic Waste Charge (DWC) is determined by your garbage bin size, for example the smaller your garbage bin the less you pay for your DWC. The following garbage bin sizes are offered:
- 1x 120 litre mobile garbage bin (green bin)
DWC: $496.00 per annum
- 1x 80 litre mobile garbage bin
DWC: $428.00 per annum
- 1x 55 litre garbage bin
DWC: $404.00 per annum
- 2x 55 litre garbage bins
DWC: $496.00 per annum
Units with shared bins (green with red lids)
- 240-litre mobile garbage bin shared between 2 units
DWC: $496.00 per annum per unit
- 240-litre mobile garbage bin shared between 3 units
DWC: $428.00 per annum per unit
- 240-litre mobile garbage bin shared between 4 units
DWC: $404.00 per annum per unit
Included in the DWC are recycling, garden organics, white goods and general household collection services. If you are in a new property and a recycling bin or garden organics bin has not been issued to your property, you may apply for this type bin free of charge using the Waste/Recycling Bin Order Form - new properties (PDF 146KB). You can contact Customer Service on (02) 9367 9222 to confirm if a bin has been issued to your property.
Waste has to be presented in a bin to:
- Minimise risk of injury to collection staff
- Prevent animals from ripping open bags and creating issues
- Meet the occupational health and safety requirements
If you would like to reduce the size of your garbage bin please email or post to Council, attention "Administration - Infrastructure & Service Delivery" with details of your reduced garbage bin size .
If you would like to increase the size of your bin you will need to fill in the Replacement Bin Order Form (PDF 156.6KB). Please note the bin sizes and cost information above.
If you still have excess garbage after avoiding, reusing, recycling and composting, you can buy yellow tags, which cost $12.00 each, from Council's Customer Service Centre. You will also need to purchase your own 55 litre bin, place tags around the handle of the bin, and put the bin out with your normal garbage collection.

Bins can be purchased by completing the Replacement Bin Order Form (PDF 156.6KB).
If your bin is stolen you will need to pay for a replacement. The following charges apply:
- Black Crate, $23.00
- Blue Crate, $24.00
- 55 litre bin, $27.00
- 80 litre bin, $70.00
- 120 litre bin, $70.00
- 240 litre bin, $85.50

Council can arrange for your bin or crate to be repaired or replaced, free of charge within 5 working days. This service takes 5 days as usually we need to source materials and parts for the repairs. Contact Council's Customer Services on (02) 9367 9222 with the following information:
- The part of the bin/crate that is damaged
- Is the bin or crate cracked?
- Is the bin lid missing or broken?
- Is the bin wheel missing or broken?
- What type of bin/crate requires repair or replacement?
- What size is the bin / crate?
- Where you can place the bin so it can be repaired?
- Any other information
Your waste and recycling bins for your service can be ordered by visiting Council's Customer Service Centre at 7-15 Wetherill St or by phoning 9367 9222. Please complete the relevant form as noted below and make payment (by cheque or cash) and your bin will be delivered to you.

Tenants will need to get the Property Owner to complete the form, as the domestic waste charge is paid by the owner of the property and is based on the size of the bin. See Bin Sizes and Costs above.
To assist the collection crew to recognise your 55 L bin in the garden collection, please phone Customer Service 9367 9222 or Leichhardt Depot 9367 9154 before 11.30am Monday to Friday for a garden bin sticker.
Waste bins left on the road/footpath
Council can assist by inspecting and liaising with the resident/business if it is only one property. If there are a number of properties, Council will letterbox the area advising residents that the bins need to be returned to their property as soon as possible or within 12 hours after the collection.

- Yellow Recycling – commingled containers

Council services street and park bins on regular cycles. Generally the following time frames apply:
- Main streets are serviced daily
- Major parks or parks with sporting facilities 3 times per week
- Small pocket parks 2 times per week
These cycles vary for different locations based on the amount of litter generated by pedestrians and park users. Council can increase the frequency should there be a demonstrated need.
