Radar Speed Displays are a Local Government safety initiative which work by displaying a car's speed to the motorist and indicating to them when they are exceeding the speed limit.
Note, these are not enforcement devices.
Leichhardt Council has a fleet of 13 fixed radar speed displays and rotate these fixed radar speed displays throughout the municipality to assist in reducing vehicular speeds and to improve awareness of speeding.
Currently radar speed displays (as of 10/5/16) are located in:
- Darling Street, Balmain East
- Elswick Street, Leichhardt (north of Marion Street)
- Lilyfield Road, Lilyfield (near Hubert Street)
- Donnelly Street, Balmain
- Beattie Street, Balmain
- Mort Street (Curtis Road to Cameron Street)
According to studies undertaken, radar speed displays have proven to slow down traffic, even years after the initial installation.
