Young Drivers

The Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) introduced a Graduated Licensing Scheme (GLS) for new drivers on 1 July 2000. The scheme aims to help young drivers gain more experience. Currently all learners must have at least 120 hours of supervised on-road driving experience. New drivers are required to pass through three licensing stages before obtaining a full licence:

Learner licence.
Provisional licence (P1 - red).
Provisional licence (P2 - green).
