International Women’s Day 2012 at Leichhardt Town Hall from 6pm to 8.30pm on Thursday 8 March
The theme for International Women’s Day 2012 is economic empowerment for women.
Leichhardt Council is presenting a free event investigating this powerful notion; for all women from the Leichhardt local government area and their friends.

Marian Baird, Professor of Employment Relations and Director of the Women & Work Research Group at University of Sydney and
Sally McManus, the Secretary of the Australian Services Union NSW and ACT secretary
, responsible for leading the
recent pay equity campaign for community sector workers.
Organisations and projects promoting women’s innovative approaches to business, employment, social enterprise, and other economic strategies will be on display highlighting the immense amount of activity generated by women in this area.
The evening will also showcase our local heroines who have made a significant contribution to empowering women with the announcement of the Leichhardt International Women’s Day Honour Roll 2012 finalists.
Light refreshments and entertainment from local artists will also be provided.

Nominate Your Local Heroines
The Honour Roll 2012 will recognise those unsung local achievers, either volunteers or women who have gone beyond the requirements of their workplace, who empower women through their individual advocacy, change management and activism.
Honour roll nominations are open now and will close on 17 February 2012.

Honour Roll 2010:
2010 Honour Roll for International Women’s Day saw Leichhardt Council inviting women to explore the power of initiating social justice measures at a local level that address global wellbeing. The focus for 2010 was maternal health: investing in women, invests in a community’s wellbeing.
Leichhardt Council invited the community to celebrate women making an outstanding impact strengthening social justice. Nominations were submitted by the community and Council announced the inspirational Leichhardt women selected at the Leichhardt Council International Women’s Day brunch held at Balmain Town Hall on Sunday 7 March 2010.
