Fair Trade Committee

Leichhardt's Fair Trade Community Steering Committee

In July 2008, Leichhardt Council made a formal commitment to making the Leichhardt Municipality accredited as a Fair Trade Community and commenced working towards the 5 fair trade goals, set by Fair Trade Association of Australia & New Zealand (FTAANZ).

One of the goals was to establish a Leichhardt Fair Trade Steering Committee, with the inaugural Steering Committee meeting being held on 30 June 2009. The following Councillors were nominated as representatives to the Committee - Mayor, Cr Jamie Parker; Cr Rochelle Porteous; & Cr Daniel Kogoy. The Committee's main focus is to increase Fair Trade within the Leichhardt Municipality, by:

  • Availability of Fair Trade products in local shops;
  • Use of Fairtrade Certified products in local enterprises;
  • Media coverage; and
  • Develop progress goals to suit the area.

Other meetings will be called for as necessary. Any local resident/business/organisation is welcome to participate in the Steering Committee. For more information, contact Louise Keightley, Council's Community Liaison Officer on 9367 9047 or by email, louisek@lmc.nsw.gov.au
