Council Solar Panels

Leichhardt Council has installed solar panel photovoltaic (PV) systems on 17 of its buildings, with battery storage in one of the buildings.

Balmain Library and Town Hall

A 13kW PV system was installed in July 2016 on Balmain Library and Town Hall located at 370 Darling Street, Balmain NSW 2041. The 50 panel system will generate 17,200 kWh, offset 18.4 tCO2-e and save approximately $2,630 per year in energy costs.

Jimmy Little Community Centre

The Jimmy Little Community Centre is located at 19 Cecily Street, Lilyfield NSW 2040. Installed in 2012, the PV system on the Community Centre has a generation capacity of 2.70kW, which allows Council to reduce emissions by around another 3.4 tonnes of CO2 every year and provide around a quarter of the Centre’s energy needs. Leichhardt Administration Building

Leichhardt Children's Centre

A 3.25kW PV system was installed in April 2014 on the Leichhardt Children’s Centre located at 19 Leichhardt Street. The system has been designed to generate approximately 15% of the centre’s total annual electricity usage and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3.5 tonnes of CO2 each year. Leichhardt Depot

A 7.42kW solar PV system and 6.4kWh battery pack was installed in June 2016 on the roof of the Mechanical Workshop building at Leichhardt Depot located at 229 Catherine St, Leichhardt NSW 2040. It is the first PV system installed with battery storage on any of Leichhardt Council’s properties. The 28 panel system will generate 10,329 kWh, offset 10.3 tCO2-e and save up to $2,065 a year. Leichhardt Oval #1

A 9.88kW PV system was installed in May 2015 on Leichhardt Oval #1 located at Mary Street, Lilyfield NSW 2040. The system will generate 13,540 kWh annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 13.5 tCO2-e each year. The system has been sized to meet the site’s daytime energy needs. Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre Gym

A 35.50kW PV system was installed in July 2016 on the gym roof at Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre located at Mary Street, Lilyfield NSW 2040. The 134 panel system will generate 53,170 kWh, offset 51.04 tCO2-e and save up to $10,634 in energy costs every year.

Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre Program Pool

A 30kW PV system was installed in June 2016 on the new program pool building roof at Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre. The 115 solar panels will generate 45,100 kWh, abate 43.3 tCO2-e in greenhouse gases and save $9,020 a year in energy costs.

Leichhardt Park Playground

A 0.3kW PV system was installed in July 2016 on the roof of a new toilet amenities building at Leichhardt Park Playground between Lilyfield Road and Glover Street, Lilyfield NSW 2040.

Leichhardt Town Hall

Leichhardt Town Hall is located at 107 Norton Street, Leichhardt NSW 2040. Installed in 2011, the panels are located so as not to be visible in principle views of the building (i.e. from main streets) and angled to match the existing roof pitch, with a generation capacity of 20.09kW. The system comprises 103x195W Schott Solar Mono crystalline modules covering an area of 150 square meters. The solar panel system generates 29.9MWh of electricity per annum and reduces CO2 emissions by 32.3 tonnes per annum. See energy generated at the Sunny Portal website.

Rozelle Bay Community Native Nursery
