Drainage Code
Council’s drainage section is responsible for maintaining approximately 60 km’s of underground storm water drains throughout the municipality. The section is also involved in stormwater catchment modelling, assessing the impact of building and development on stormwater drainage systems and the design and application of stormwater management strategies.
Included in the local drainage system are a number of waterways such as Whites Creek, Johnstons Creek and Hawthorne Canal, which are managed and maintained by Sydney Water. The stormwater run off into these waterways however needs to be managed by Council to ensure that it does not adversely affect the environment.
Council is committed to improving stormwater management in the Municipality to keep our waterways clean and maintain a healthy environment. The objective of Council’s Stormwater Management Strategy is to ensure that stormwater is managed in a manner that conserves and enhances the ecological, environmental, social and economic values within the storm water catchments.
Council’s drainage and development section use Council’s Stormwater Code as a guideline when assessing the impact of development applications on the drainage network. A copy of the Council’s Stormwater Code is available at the service counter in the Infrastructure and Service Delivery Division and Development Applicants should refer to this code -
