Linked-In Mentoring Program

The Linked-In Mentoring Program is a school based mentoring initiative run in partnership between Leichhardt Council and Sydney Secondary College (Leichhardt and Balmain).

The program aims to empower and support young people who are secondary students, to keep them engaged and introduce them to alternate learning environments.

The program involves a series of activities where young people are accompanied by volunteer mentors. These activities include yoga, physical theatre, and film-making. linked-in-program-logo2016.jpg

Mentors and students meet on Tuesdays from 1:00pm to 3:00pm; term 2 to term 4 of the school year (excludes school holidays).

Mentor Recruitment Process

Applicants undergo a selection process that includes completing a registration form, participating in an interview, reference checks, and Working With Children Check clearances.

Successful applicants participate in mentor training delivered by Petersham TAFE Outreach. Upon completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment. This training will assist people to work effectively in the role of a mentor in a volunteer capacity. It is a one-day workshop and covers topics such as the role of the mentor, youth development and working effectively with young people.
