Our Inspiring Seniors page is a place where we showcase some of the amazing seniors we have in our community and tell you a little bit about their inspirational stories.

Diane Hewitt - inspiring senior

Diane Hewitt

Diane Hewitt who volunteers with the Rozelle Neighbourhood Centre has been awarded 2015 Senior Sydney Inner West Volunteer of the Year.

She has been involved with the program for over 24 years in varying capacities and became chairperson of the RNC Management Committee in 2015.

 

 

Ruth ZionzeeRuth Zionzee

Ruth Zionzee is an active and positive person! In her mid-eighties, Ruth plays tennis each week at Birchgrove. She also does a weekly Zumba Gold class at the Hannaford Centre and she walks every day.

Ruth is gregarious and in addition to the socialising that accompanies these sporting activities, she sees many friends during the week.  One of her habits is to tell a joke a day.

Ruth is a passionate ballet enthusiast and attends the ballet (and opera) several times a year. Her profession was nursing and she is still a Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing.

Ruth also has a claim at Lightening Ridge!

Anne Sims - Inspiring SeniorAnne Sims

Anne Sims does Yoga, Tai Chi and Zumba Gold at the Hannaford Centre each week.

Her preferred mode of transport is cycling. Anne thinks this is a healthy choice, for Anne but also the planet! 

Anne says that she cycles because she enjoys it and she “wants to”.

 

 

 

Inspiring Senior Jenny FarrerJenny Farrer

Jenny is a long time Annandale resident who is in her “late seventies”.

She plays the trumpet with the Leichhardt Brass Band.

She started playing in the band in her sixties. She is shortly off on a trip to Budapest.  

 

 

 

Patty PerkinsPatty Perkins

Patty Perkins is a Rozelle treasure.  Patty has many friends and is a very loyal and kind person. Each morning, she makes a quick phone call to those friends in the local area who are living alone, just to say good morning and to check that they are OK.

Patty is a Hannaford Centre member, participating in exercise, Tuesday lunches and bus trips. She always has a smile and a laugh, loves to dance and is a bundle of energy and fun. She is the life of every party and a passionate Tigers fan who attends the games and looks forward to once again walking across the threshold of the Balmain Leagues Club.

 

 

Madeline Feeney v2Madeleine Feeney

Madeleine has recently been selected to represent New South Wales in the Senior State team in only her second season of Dragon Boat Paddling.

In April, Madeleine will be competing for her club Mavericks in the State Championships in Penrith and later that month  for both N.S.W. and Mavericks in the National Dragon Boat Championships in Perth. Go the Blues!
