Community Information Policy
A safe, well-balanced and productive community can only be achieved when its members’ diverse and changing needs are fulfilled. Leichhardt Library Services enhances the community through the maintenance of a Community Information Directory and Community Information Noticeboard. These amenities aim to facilitate access to community services within the Leichhardt LGA and surrounding areas.
The display and distribution of leaflets and notices in the libraries are managed and maintained by library staff.
Organisations will normally be approved for display or inclusion in the database if they:
- Are a not for profit organisation
- Provide information for everyday living
- Are a self help support group
- Are a community development organisation
- Schedule community events
- Are commercial organisations licensed by the government or with special contractual agreements to operate long term care facilities, childcare centres, health services and certain home care services.
The Community Information database and noticeboards will not include information which:
- Conflicts with the role of Leichhardt Council
- Is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libellous, invasive of another’s privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable or harms minors in any way
- Impersonates any person or entity
- Infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other rights of any party
- Are commercial enterprises aimed primarily at private profit
Although all due care is taken to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the information, Leichhardt Library Service is not:
- Responsible for the accuracy of the information nor for any errors or omissions in the Community Information database or Community Noticeboards
- For any consequential loss or damage caused to third parties
Information is provided on the basis that all persons accessing the Community Directory undertake responsibility for assessing the relevance and accuracy of its content.
Leichhardt Municipal Library reserves the right to decide on a case by case basis whether or not an organisation may be included in the database. Inclusion of an organisation in the Community Database or Community Noticeboards does not imply any endorsement of the organisation, its services or products by Leichhardt Council, nor does exclusion reflect on the quality of any program or service or its contribution to the community.
