Leichhardt Council has supported the extension of the light rail system for many years. As far back as 2005, Leichhardt Council was leading the campaign for the extension of the existing light rail which currently ends at Lilyfield all the way to Dulwich Hill.
Community support for light rail is overwhelming with the obvious benefits including speed of construction, relatively low cost and effective commuter and recreational transport. The extension of the Light rail to Dulwich Hill will also set up key transport interchanges with the heavy rail lines at Lewisham for the Inner West Line and Dulwich Hill for the Bankstown Line.
Nine new light rail stops will be built at Leichhardt North, Hawthorne, Marion, Taverners Hill, Lewisham West, Waratah Mills, Arlington, Dulwich Grove and Dulwich Hill Interchange.
A new timeline of 2014 has been set for the operation of the light rail. For more information visit the Transport for NSW website.
