Leichhardt Library Service Annual Report 2010-2011
This year we have extended the library services to reach as many members of the community as possible. Existing services were expanded and new added; there were more internet classes held, an additional 170 children’s programs were provided, a new Blog was created for parents and children, a library Facebook presence was established, sensory boards for preschoolers were installed, more than 4,500 digital historical images were catalogued and electronic reading profiles for borrowers were created. Leichhardt Council continues to invest strongly in library stock with a $320,000 budget for 2010/11 and welcomed an additional $8,700 donated by the Friends of Balmain Library. Our Libraries have performed very well, with 96% of users being satisfied with the service overall as measured in Council’s annual community survey.

Highlights
This year the uploading of 4,500+ digital historical images of the Leichhardt Community into the library catalogue now allows all these images to be access via the Internet; providing thumbnail and Jpeg images. Tiff images are available on request.
During this year the talented and enthusiastic Children’s Service Team provided an amazing 621 programmes for 21,802 library users.
For the fourth year the Winter Writing Competition for school children of the local community was held. Winning entries can be view on the BLOG http://shelveit.wordpress.com/
Conversations with the Author Programme featured a diverse range of authors mostly writers of non fiction focusing on societal issues:

The community made 142 suggestions for service improvements and book purchases.
Staff development included participation in Assertive Training, Making Connections - State Library NSW, Drug and Alcohol Awareness, E Books, Cultural Planning, LIAC Legal Aid Resources, Engaging with Youth, Storytelling, Evaluating Library Services, Leadership & Sustainability, Digitising Local History, Young Adults & the HSC, EEO, HSC Support, Youth Council and Book Week Extravaganza.
