Air Quality Monitoring
The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage coordinates an air quality monitoring network across New South Wales. The network informs the public about air quality using the regional air quality index (RAQI), which is updated hourly. There is an air quality monitoring site in the grounds of the former Rozelle Hospital. This monitoring site was established in 1978.
The following air pollutants are currently measured at Rozelle:
- Ozone - O3
- Oxides of Nitrogen - nitrogen oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) & oxides of nitrogen (NOx)
- Carbon Monoxide - CO
- Fine particles less than 10 micrometres in diameter - PM10
- Visibility - NEPH (suspended fine particles as measured by a nephelometer)
